Veb 0.33

Reference archive: this page documents the original Yab browser. Features, platforms and release dates here do not describe the current Veb prototype. Veb release plans →

Keep typed addresses in their space, pick mail reliably and handle large blocking lists safely.

Added

  • Remove Personal

After bringing in your own profiles, delete Personal from its space menu when you no longer need it. Veb keeps at least one usable profile and switches to one that remains.

  • Reading colors

Choose System, Light, Dark, Sepia or your own background and text colors in Reading Appearance. Veb remembers your choice and keeps the text readable.

  • New tab from the sidebar

Double-click the empty space below the sidebar's tabs to open a new tab.

  • Click to hide the sidebar

Click the sidebar's edge to hide it; drag the edge to change its width, as before.

  • Emoji for folders

A folder of links you ⌘-clicked from pages of different sites gets an emoji with its name; turn it off in Settings › Tabs.

  • ⌥⇧-click a tab

⌥⇧-click a tab to put it in a folder with the tab you're on, or into that tab's folder.

  • Clear Cookies and Refresh

View › Clear Cookies and Refresh, also in ⌘T, signs you out of the site in front and loads it again, as in Arc.

Improved

  • Connecting assistants

Veb’s assistant guide explains which tools are available, where to connect them and what access you are granting.

  • Reaching the hidden sidebar

A wider target at the window's edge makes the hidden sidebar easier to bring out.

  • Address bar

With the page edge to edge, the address bar is 40 points tall, the same as the top tab row; the address plate under the pointer is 30 points tall, matching the buttons beside it.

  • Space menu

The space's name, its dot, its row in the tray and a right-click below its tabs open the same menu, with the actions in Arc's order.

  • Pinning the sidebar

Pinning the sidebar that floats over the page slides it in from the edge together with the page.

  • Back to a kept page

The return button fills the start of a kept tab's row, and the slash beside it no longer lights up as a button.

  • Folders after a restart

A folder of ⌘-clicked links keeps its site's icon after Veb restarts.

  • Link menu

Right-clicking a link puts Open Link in New Tab first.

  • Mail rows

In Mail, label chips grow in, picked rows leave as one sheet, an agent's hand takes the rows it works on, and the star pops.

  • Today's line

The line over today's tabs is a strip, as in Arc, with Clear always on it.

  • Agent tabs

An agent's tabs from a run nobody watched close after the wait, and the next run takes over its tab.

  • New tabs at once

A tab you open from ⌘T comes in front the moment you press Return, and its page loads inside it.

Changed

  • Password manager connections

Unverified options for agents to read vaults or unlock managers are no longer offered. Their extensions still fill and save on pages.

Fixed

  • 1Password startup

Credential requests wait briefly for the extension’s startup handler instead of receiving an empty reply before it is ready.

  • Addresses in a space

Typing an address reuses tabs in the current space; choose a tab in another space explicitly to switch there.

  • Private new tab

An empty private address field no longer reserves space for an empty results list.

  • Picking mail

The selection ring stays under the pointer while you move from a mail row into its left margin.

  • Large blocking lists

Blocking lists split before reaching WebKit’s universal-action limit, preserving rule order and exceptions.

  • Address field

Fixed a crash that could happen while editing an address.

  • Mail settings

Fixed a crash when older saved mail lists are first loaded while preferences change.

  • Sidebar corners

The docked sidebar no longer leaves bright arcs at the window's outer corners.

  • Full-screen menu bar

Moving over the macOS menu bar no longer brings out the hidden sidebar; resting at the side edge below the menu still does.

  • Middle-click in the sidebar

The middle mouse button closes a tab in the sidebar that floats over the page, on either side.

  • Quit over the address field

The quit confirmation keeps Return, Escape and arrow keys while the address field is open.

  • Assistant tabs stay in their space

A cloud assistant's tabs stay in the space you granted it instead of following you into other spaces.

  • One password menu

With a password-manager extension on, its menu fills and saves sign-ins; Veb no longer shows a second list, strong-password offer or save card beside it.

  • NordPass at rest

NordPass no longer keeps the CPU busy on pages opened before its extension was installed.

  • Printing from a site

A site's own Print button opens the print sheet, including Save as PDF; ⌘P in a peek prints that peek.

  • Clicks beside a peek

Clicking below a peek's buttons or in the gap beside its page closes it.

  • Sidebar after full screen

Leaving a page's full screen with the window edge to edge keeps the sidebar's space color in place.

  • Mail accounts stay signed in

Gmail, IMAP and Outlook accounts signed out since 0.32 stay signed in once you sign in again.

  • No white flash

A dark site that takes a moment to load no longer flashes white before it shows, in a new tab or a tab woken up.

  • Switching spaces

Swiping or switching to another space no longer shows the space you left in the sidebar for a frame as it lands.

  • Sidebar width when hidden

With the sidebar hidden, the one that slides out over the page is made wider or narrower by its edge, on the left or the right.

  • Cards under space icons

Picking a space's emoji or icon no longer shows the cards of the tabs under it.

  • Kept page menu

Edit Kept Page in a tab's right-click menu no longer flickers under the pointer.

  • Shift-click to a link

Shift-click on a link now ends a text selection there instead of losing it and opening a peek.

  • Forgetting history in ⌘T

Shift-Delete and Forget This Page take a Frequent row off the list, and the chosen row has an × to forget it.

  • Quitting over a look

With a link open in a small window, ⌘Q asks in that window, and Escape and Return answer it.

  • Settings in full screen

With Veb in full screen, Settings opens over it instead of on the desktop.

  • Picking in DevTools

Leaving Elements for Console or another panel ends element picking, so pointing at the page no longer highlights its elements.

  • ⌃Tab and agents

⌃Tab leaves out an agent's own tabs in the space you're on too, unless they're kept or in front.

  • Surfingkeys

    Surfingkeys' advanced settings now work.

  • Tab Suspender and folders

A tab suspended by Tab Suspender or The Great Suspender stays in its folder and its place, and Back still goes to the page.

  • Swiping in a peek

Swiping back or forward in a peek shows its arrow and the page it goes to, as in a tab.

  • Pinned pages on your Mac

A page on your Mac you pinned, like a start page of your own, stays after Veb restarts or its window closes.
