Arc for Mac and Windows closes on December 22, 2026. Save your tabs and choose where to move before that date. Arc Search has a different schedule on iPhone and Android.

When does Arc stop working?
The Browser Company has set out three dates in its farewell to Arc:
- October 22, 2026New Arc accounts close. Existing members can still use Arc. The latest version adds a data export option.
- November 23, 2026Arc Search loses AI, sign-in and sync. Browse for Me and other AI features turn off on iOS and Android. Basic browsing remains at this stage.
- December 22, 2026Arc on macOS and Windows stops being usable. Arc accounts are deactivated, with their personal data deleted within 30 days. Arc says Arc Search for Android will be fully deprecated and removed from Google Play and installed devices.
Arc Search on iOS keeps a lite browser after its November changes. Do not assume that the desktop deadline means the same thing for every mobile app.
Arc says its engineering and security teams will focus on Dia. The announcement does not offer a way to keep using the desktop Arc browser after December 22.
How to export your Arc tabs before the shutdown
Keep a copy of your links even if you plan to import directly into another browser. Arc’s export instructions describe a list of links. That file is useful as a backup; it is not a full copy of your browser profile.
On a Mac
- Open Arc and choose Arc › Settings in the Mac menu bar
- Choose Advanced › Export Data
- Choose where to save the file and select Save
On Windows
- Open Arc’s settings with Ctrl+, or the Arc menu
- Under Advanced, find Export Spaces and tabs and select Export Data
- Choose where to save the file and select Save
On iPhone or Android
In Arc Search, open the Tab Switcher at the bottom left, then Settings. On iOS, choose Export Data to share or copy your open tabs. On Android, choose Storage › Export data. Menu wording may differ by version; Arc’s mobile FAQ also calls the iOS option Export Open Tabs….
Open the saved file and check that the links you care about are there. Do this before December 22, while you can still return to Arc if something is missing. Keep your old Arc installation and local data until you have checked the replacement.
Which browser should you move to?
Start with the part of Arc you depend on: spaces, the sidebar, pinned tabs, extensions, or your phone. Then check what the replacement can actually import.
Dia, for the move recommended by Arc’s maker
Arc recommends Dia and says it can import your data directly, without an export first. Spaces become Profiles, folders become Tab Groups, and sidebar tabs, pins and favorites are supported. Arc says the familiar browser features are free and AI is optional. Read the Arc and Dia comparison for the other differences.
Veb, for your Arc setup on a Mac
Veb has a sidebar, spaces, folders, Split View and Peek, and can bring in Arc’s spaces and tabs from the files on your Mac. It is free and needs macOS 15.4 or later. Its import manual lists what comes over and what stays behind. Veb for iPhone is in public beta; Veb does not have a Windows or Android app.
We build Veb, so this is our recommendation. If another engine, Windows support or another extension system matters more, use the Arc alternatives comparison to narrow the list.
How to move from Arc to Veb
You do not need to turn Arc’s link export into an import file for Veb. Veb reads Arc’s local files. The full Arc to Veb guide has the transfer table and steps.
- Release status and open it
- Choose Bring from Arc in the welcome. Later, use Settings › General › Bring in from another browser
- Review any macOS keychain prompt for Arc’s saved passwords, cards and sign-ins
- Check each space, its pinned tabs and folders, then try the extensions and sites you use every day
Spaces, favorites, pins and folders can come over. Easels stay behind. Extensions are fetched again from the Chrome Web Store; their own settings and sign-ins stay behind. Some websites may also ask you to sign in again. Keep the exported links until you are comfortable in the new browser.
These steps follow Veb’s import documentation. They do not guarantee that every site or extension keeps its exact state.
Questions about the Arc shutdown
When is Arc shutting down?
The Browser Company announced that Arc for macOS and Windows will no longer be accessible or usable on December 22, 2026. New Arc accounts stopped on October 22. Existing members can keep using the desktop browser until the shutdown.
Can I still use Arc after December 22?
The announcement says no for Arc on macOS and Windows. Arc Search on iOS keeps a lite browser, with AI, sign-in and sync ending November 23. Arc says its Android app will be fully deprecated on December 22.
How do I export my Arc tabs?
On a Mac, open Arc > Settings > Advanced > Export Data. On Windows, open Settings > Advanced > Export Spaces and tabs > Export Data. Save the list of links before December 22, 2026. This list is a backup of links, not a complete transfer of passwords, extensions and sign-ins.
Do I have to move to Dia?
No. Dia is the replacement recommended by The Browser Company, and it imports Arc data directly. You can choose another browser. Compare the sidebar, spaces, extensions, supported devices and import limits that matter to you.
Can I move my Arc spaces to Veb?
On a Mac, Veb can read Arc's local files and bring in spaces, favorites, pinned tabs and folders. Easels stay behind, extension settings do not transfer, and some sites may ask you to sign in again. Veb needs macOS 15.4 or later.
