Arc stays as it was. Veb only reads.checked Oct 9

The Browser Company announced Arc’s shutdown on October 22, 2026: Arc for macOS and Windows will stop working on December 22, 2026. Existing users can use it until then; new account sign-ups are closed. Read Arc’s announcement or our shutdown and export guide before you move.

Veb brings each Arc space with its emoji, color and grain, pins, kept tabs and folders, plus passwords, cards, bookmarks, history, extensions and your sign-ins.

Veb reads it straight from Arc’s files on your Mac. Nothing goes through a server, and Arc can stay open.

Shutdown announcement checked October 22, 2026. Import details follow Veb’s documentation, checked October 9, 2026. The full story is in the Manual’s Bringing in from another browser.

What stays behind

  • Easels. They stay in Arc. Save anything you need from them separately before the shutdown.
  • Extensions’ own data. Veb fetches extensions fresh from the Chrome Web Store. Their settings and sign-ins stay in Arc, so you may need to set them up again.
  • Some site sessions. Sign-ins are imported, but a few sites may ask you to sign in again. Check your important accounts before relying on the new browser.

Import details: Bringing in from another browser in the Veb Manual.

How

  1. 1Download Veb and open it. It needs macOS 15.4 or later.
  2. 2In the welcome, choose Bring from Arc. It takes everything in one go. Later, Settings › General › Bring in from another browser brings each kind on its own.
  3. 3macOS asks whether Veb may use Arc’s key in your keychain, which locks its passwords, cards and sign-ins. Choose Always Allow.
  4. 4It finishes in the background and says when it is done. Arc can stay open the whole time.

Check the move before removing Arc

  • Compare your spaces, folders, favorites and pinned tabs with Arc. Open the links you use most.
  • Check important site sign-ins, then open your extensions and restore their settings or sign in where needed.
  • Keep Arc installed while you check. Follow the export guide to save a separate list of your links as a backup before removing it.

AIVeb leads

Only Veb has an agent that clicks, types and finishes tasks in your pages. Arc Max helpers tidy tab titles and downloads, preview links and put ChatGPT in the command bar; Ask on Page was removed in August 2025, and there is no agent. Veb’s agent works in tabs of its own beside yours, signed in as you, on your Claude or ChatGPT plan; Send, Pay and Delete wait for your yes. Veb runs on the Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for; the other on its own AI.

Agents like Claude Code and CodexVeb leads

Arc has no MCP server or command line for outside agents. Veb can be driven over MCP and a command line, through yab mcp and the yab command, for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and any MCP client.

Tabs and windowseven

Both have tabs down the side, spaces, Split View, folders in the sidebar and tabs that sleep.

PriceArc leads

Arc: Free for existing members until the desktop app stops working December 22, 2026. Veb: Free; its AI runs on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan.

Where it runsArc leads

Arc runs on Mac and Windows. Veb runs on Mac. On a Mac, Arc needs macOS 13 or later and Veb needs macOS 15.4 or later. On the phone, Arc: Arc Search on iOS and Android; AI, sign-in and sync end November 23, 2026. On the phone, Veb: Veb for iPhone, in beta on TestFlight; syncs spaces, tabs, bookmarks, history and chats.

Engine and extensionsa matter of taste

Arc is built on Chromium, as Chrome is; Veb on WebKit, the engine Safari uses. Both take extensions from the Chrome Web Store.

PrivacyVeb leads

Arc has no ad blocker of its own. Arc accounts will be deactivated December 22, 2026, and their personal data deleted within 30 days; export what you want to keep before then. Veb has an ad blocker built in. Veb has no account and no server of ours between you and your sites; what your agent reads goes to Anthropic or OpenAI under your account.

UpdatesVeb leads

Arc: Shutdown announced October 22, 2026: new accounts are closed, and Arc for macOS and Windows stops working December 22, 2026. Veb is updated as usual.

Questions

Does moving change anything in Arc?

No. Veb only reads Arc’s files. Arc keeps everything, and existing users can keep using it until the December 22, 2026 shutdown. Check your imported data and save a backup before removing Arc.

Do I have to close Arc first?

No. Veb reads Arc’s files while it is open.

Will I stay signed in to my sites?

Mostly. Your sign-ins come with the rest, so most sites open signed in. A few ask you to sign in again.

Do my extensions come?

Yes. Veb fetches each one you had switched on fresh from the Chrome Web Store and runs it on WebKit, the engine Safari uses. Most work as in Chrome; what an extension kept itself, like its own sign-in, stays in the old browser.

Can I bring it in again later?

Yes. Bringing Arc in again only adds what is new.

What does Veb cost?

Nothing. Its AI runs on the Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for, if you connect one.

Veb, Very Expensive Browser.

Free for the Mac. Arc’s sidebar, your own Claude or ChatGPT as the agent, Chrome extensions on WebKit.
