Press ⇧⌘P and the video on the page moves into a small window that stays above every app, and keeps playing. The page stays in its tab. ⇧⌘P again sends it home.
Leave a tab playing YouTube, Netflix, Twitch or another video site, and its video floats by itself. Come back and it returns to the page.
In the window#
It rests in a corner of the screen. Drag it, or carry it with two fingers, and it glides to the nearest corner, or the one it was heading for; pinch or drag its corner to resize it. It keeps its shape and remembers its place.
Two buttons in its top row set the speed, from 0.5× to 2×, and the subtitles. The bar at its foot shows chapters where the video has them: near a chapter’s start a click goes to the start itself, and the bar names the chapter. While the video waits on the network, a spinner takes pause’s place, and after a while it says Slow connection.
A site’s own Picture-in-Picture button brings its video to the same window, as ⇧⌘P does.
Live streams#
On a live stream the window says Live at the bar’s end, or how far behind you are: 5m behind. Click those words to go back to live. While you drag along the bar, a tip says how far back that point is. Paused, the count keeps growing, and +15 seconds wakes up only once you are behind. An ad inside the stream is muted and says Ad · muted; a stream catching up says so. When the broadcast ends it plays on as a recording, with its real length, and a radio that can’t rewind just says Live. The player at the foot of the sidebar says the same.
Tuck it away#
Throw it past the left or right edge of the screen and it tucks behind the edge, a sliver still showing, while the sound plays on. Point at the sliver to peek, and click it or press ⇧⌘P to bring it back.
When it floats#
Settings › Tabs has one switch, Picture in Picture automatically, on from the start: a video floats when you leave its tab or Veb, and so does every call. When you leave Veb, it comes out only once Veb’s window is hidden or mostly covered, and goes back into its tab when you come back.
The mini player#
With tabs in the sidebar, whatever plays in a tab you aren’t looking at sits at the sidebar’s foot, with its cover and title. Point at it for previous, pause and next, click it to go to the tab, or swipe sideways on it to move between tabs that are playing. Right-click it for Show Tab, the play buttons and the other tabs playing. It has no switch: as in Arc, it is there whenever something plays out of sight.
