A live folder is a kept folder with a source. It reads that source every few minutes with the sign-ins of the space it’s in, no tab open, and keeps its tabs to match: what comes in is added at its top, asleep, and what is done goes.
Live folders are off until you want them: open Settings › Live Folders and press Turn On Live Folders. While they are off, each live folder says Paused and keeps its tabs.
Make one#
- Right-click the line above today’s tabs and choose New Live Folder, then a source.
- Right-click a pin for Live Folder from its site, or a tab for Follow Site in a Folder.
- Pull Requests is made on its own the first time you make a pull request in a space.
- Settings › Live Folders suggests sources from the sites you open most, on this Mac, and has A GitHub Repository… for every open pull request in one repository.
Each folder has its own page there, with its Repositories, Update Now and Stop Updating. A repository you follow brings the pull requests active in the last week; its page picks Active Today, Active This Week, Active This Month or All Open.
Sources#
- GitHub pull requests: yours and the ones waiting on your review. Each says Review, Changes, Failing, Ready or New at its end, and nothing when nothing needs you. A merged or closed one goes, unless you’re on it.
- GitHub issues and a GitHub search you keep.
- Linear issues, Figma files, Notion’s inbox and pages others changed, and what Google Drive says was shared with you or changed.
- New videos from your YouTube subscriptions, and any site’s RSS or Atom feed.
Folders of news keep twelve things at most: each comes in once, at the top, and goes a day after you open it.
A tab of a live folder is a sleeping row until you open it, so a folder of thirty costs thirty rows. If a site wants you to sign in again, the folder says Sign in. Take out a tab you don’t want with Hide from Folder or Remove from Folder and it isn’t brought back until it changes.
