Getting started

Reference archive: this page documents the original Yab browser. Features, platforms and release dates here do not describe the current Veb prototype. Veb release plans →

What Veb is, how to install it, and the five keys that do most of the work.

macOS 15.4 or later

Veb is a Mac browser in the spirit of Arc: pinned tabs and folders in a sidebar, spaces, Peek and Split View. It adds an agent: your own Claude or ChatGPT works in tabs you can see, signed in as you.

Install#

Download Veb from Release status and open the disk image. Open yab copies it into Applications and opens it. If you open a copy from somewhere else, it moves itself into Applications first, so it can update itself later. Veb needs macOS 15.4 or later.

Five keys to start with#

There is no toolbar and no start page: a row of tabs, across the top or down the side, and the page. Everything else is a key away.

The first launch#

The first time Veb opens, a short welcome sets it up in a few steps. Each one can be skipped and done later in Settings.

  • A sample run of an agent at work, on sample data, so you see what ⌘J does before anything is connected.
  • Your agent. Connect Claude or ChatGPT on the plan you have, or choose Later.
  • Your old browser. Bring in pinned tabs, spaces, extensions, passwords, cards, bookmarks, history and sign-ins from Chrome, Arc, Dia, Brave, Edge and others, or Start Fresh.
  • Your look. Tabs across the top or down the side, the page to the edge or on a color.
  • Optional extras. Let your agent get to know you, so it fills forms and writes like you. With Mail on, one Allow also brings your Google mail, your next meeting and the codes sites mail you.
  • Default browser. Make Default, so links from other apps open in Veb. Skipped when it already is.

↩ presses the main button and ⌘[ or esc goes back a step. To see it again, choose Help › Welcome…, or Show Again in Settings › About.

Make it your browser#

So links from Mail, Slack and everything else open in Veb, go to Settings › General, press Make Default under Open links in Veb, and choose Use “Veb” when macOS asks. Links from other apps then open in a small window.

Settings › General › Open at Login opens Veb hidden as you log in, so it is ready when you are.

On iPhone#

Veb for iPhone is in public beta. Open Mobile plans on your iPhone and join; TestFlight installs it. When Veb on your Mac has Sync on (Settings › Sync) under the same Apple ID, the iPhone finds it and brings your spaces and tabs, end-to-end encrypted. Under another Apple ID, choose Add a Device… in Settings › Sync on your Mac and use its code. Without a Mac, choose Use Without a Mac: it works on its own too.
